[OPEN] EVENT.010
SNOW WAY OUT

[Maybe this little trip to Nevei Forest was just what Regis needed to help take the edge off. While the former monarch is still quite uneasy, the lush evergreen backdrop of this lovely forest is more than enough to lift his spirits. It's much better than tolling away in the awful snow back within the city. News of this lush destination came to him in the form of an advertisement he seen on his phone. It didn't take much for Regis to pitch the idea to Noctis and the others, especially Cor.

Most Lucians are quite averse to snow after all.

Nevertheless, Regis decides to rent out a room within one of the more rustic villas in the resort. The architecture here is quite a far cry from his days in Insomnia but the villa is still quite fetching. He settles by the fireplace nursing what seems to be a cup of tea while dressed quite casually in a black shirt, dark slacks, and sleek black leather shoes. For this particular ensemble, Regis chose to wear his newly purchased off-gray waistcoat for that hint of formalness.

Even though he's no longer a king, Regis is still royal. He can't exactly get away with just wearing jeans and a t-shirt, unlike his son.

The lack of room service at this villa is a bit of nuisance but Regis doesn't seem to mind all too much. His gaze drifts as he watches the slow trickle of tourists wandering about within the main hall. Eventually, he grows bored with people watching and starts searching for conversation. Despite his grim expression, Regis is quite sociable.
]

Enjoying yourself?

[He questions a random passerby with a pleasant smile.]

Firialia Eve Ball

[The expression upon Regis's face is cross in between absolute rage and devastation. Who would've guessed that Regis would suddenly be transformed into a fairy during the middle of the performance? Certainly not Regis but that's beside the point. The former King of Lucis cannot help but huff indignantly at his current state. Had he not been reduced in stature to that of a fairy, he would've been relatively fine with the thought of sporting a colorful pair of translucent fairy wings and elfin-like ears. However, Regis wasn't so fortunate and is now at the mercy of the giggling guests surrounding him.

He gives them a frigid stare that is colder than Shiva's teet while idly fixing the cuffs of his handsomely elaborate suit. Regardless of his fairy-like form, Regis still looks very much like a king. He's just tiny and adorable right now much to his displeasure. While he does his best not to look bothered, Regis is considering how flustered he looks.
]

This is not quite how I thought I would enjoy my evening.

[He grumbles under his breath while wishing he could have a cocktail.]

AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT!

[A wistful look settles within Regis's gaze as he watches others enjoy themselves at the ice-skating rink. While he's a little too old in his years to enjoy such festivities anymore, Regis certainly possesses some fond memories of his youth. He was never particularly good at ice-skating but Aulea was. His late wife was as graceful as the wind despite her razor-sharp tongue and even sharper wit. He cannot help but think of her as he watches the other patrons on the ice. Regis spotted a few familiar faces in the crowd. No one particularly noteworthy but many of them where guests who joined the ball the other night.

He's back to normal size again, folks! It seems that horrid fairy dust finally is worn but how?

Regis certainly won't say how anyone on the savvy might be able to figure out in two guesses. Still, Regis is quite relieved to be back to normal size today despite his forlorn expression. He's a less decadent in style unlike last night choosing to wear an all-black ensemble with a dark wool coat with a slight militaristic flair. The old king lingers by the ice skating rink lost within his fond memories.

[ The suggestiveness of her comment makes him arch his brow a little but Regis doesn't care to question it. After all, she's probably just teasing at his expense. ]

Aya Brea? [ He repeats her name with a bit of a grin. ] Quite a lovely name, Miss Brea.

[ It's quite easy to remember too. Unlike most Lucian names which tend to have a robust middle name much like the Caelum royal family. ]

My name is quite lengthy in comparison thanks to being nobility but many know me as just Regis. [ Or Reggie but sometimes he detests that nickname. ] I'm Regis Lucis Caelum of Lucis the one-hundred and thirteenth of my name, Guardian of the Crystal and every other long-winded titles that praise the royal Caelum line.

[ He has a sense of humor it seems. That's quite unusual of someone of his pedigree.]

[ in what is likely no surprise to regis, aya's eyebrows climb higher and higher when he lists nobility, title, and the length of his name. ]

Well, Sir Regis, that's quite the name.

[ and impressive. they've tracked as far back as 113 generations? then again, she supposes that's not unusual for someone coming from nobility. ]

You said you were a ... Guardian of the Crystal? I'm not familiar with the role.
[personal profile] lucere on December 24th, 2019 09:28 pm (UTC)
[ Her surprise was expected but it's amusing nonetheless. This sort of stuff never gets old for Regis. ]

Isn't it? [ He admits with a good-natured chuckle. ] As much pride as I have in being a Caelum, I do admit that our names are quite verbose.

[ If the only Aya knew of some of the names of the other Lucian kings and queens. His name is actually considered quite tame in comparison to some of the others. ]

Unless you hail from Eos, only a seldom few know of the Crystal and the Gods who bestowed Lucis with its power. [ He observes Aya’s expression before continuing. This is a long tale but he'll try his best to condense it. ] It all begun long ago when Eos was still young.

The Crystal was bestowed to mankind in hopes of forging a unity between us and the Divine. It has a will of its own, and channels its sacred power through the heirs of the Lucian throne.

[ While he won't go into details as of how that's possible, Regis hopes this explanation will be good enough.]

Tell me, are such fantastical lore commonplace within your realm?
[personal profile] emergence on December 24th, 2019 09:47 pm (UTC)
two squenix protags from very different times
[ what he'll see on her face is quite plain; a variant of disbelief, but a willingness to listen. she's heard plenty of crazy things in her day.

now, if they were back in los angeles, she'd dismiss it as the ramblings of an old man... but she's on a space station where people get animal parts and she saw him turn into a fairy.

basically, her instinct is to not believe it, but all her evidence points otherwise.

she shakes her head at the end of his explanation. ]

Only in things like video games, or roleplaying communities.

[ she gives a sheepish smile. ]

It sounds like a fantasy to me for sure. But you're here standing in front of me, and everything around us defies my explanations.

[ she gently moves to spin regis around. ]

So I'm not gonna say I don't believe you. Only that verbosity doesn't seem to be limited to your names, either.
[personal profile] lucere on December 24th, 2019 10:30 pm (UTC)
and they both lament their fate accordingly lol
[ The disbelief within her gaze clues him in on her origins. She mustn't hail from Eos if she knows nothing of the Crystal or the Gods he mentioned. That proves that Miss Brea is yet another wayfarer from some unknown faraway star. This amuses Regis some but also makes him question his fate. If his soul is ever freed from the Ring then what?

Would he be returned in a whole new realm completely freed from the Caelum curse? Or will his consciousness be scattered to the four winds? Regis doesn't know and this honestly worries him.
]

A video game? [ He almost scoffs at the word when he chuckles. ] If this was some mere video game, I would’ve already restarted with a new game.

[ He’s not as adept in video games as his son but Regis knows a few things. ]

Although, I can certainly understand your disbelief.

[ The sudden spin catches Regis off guard but barely. It wins a laugh since he hadn’t expected Aya to be so bold. It’s been too long since he last danced with anyone, especially like this. It reminds him of happier times and he honestly has Aya to thank for that. ]

Oh, are you teasing me now? [ He questions with a bit of a smirk upon his lips. ] How cruel of you, Miss Brea.
[personal profile] emergence on December 24th, 2019 10:42 pm (UTC)
nomura pls
[ she grins this time. ]

You know, I'd agree with you there. I could use a fresh save myself.

[ can she put no points into her mitochondria??? please??

she grins wider when he calls her cruel, taking hold of him again after the spin. ]

Where I'm from we call that taking your hits. [ she teases back. ] It sounds like you come from quite the place, though. Like there's a lot of responsibility on your shoulders.
[personal profile] lucere on December 24th, 2019 11:09 pm (UTC)
Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown. [ Regis states as he takes the lead this time. Bad knee or not, he means to enjoy dancing with the beautiful Miss Aya Brea. ] That old proverb rings truer every time it's said.

Being a king is no easy task but nor should it be.

[ Despite all of his woe, Regis is thankful to have been the King of Lucis. He learned much during his long years upon the throne but It's nothing like being a father. Still, it's rewarding enough to leave a few fond memories. He just wishes he could've done more for his people and others during their hour of need. ]

Now enough about me--- [ He suddenly dips Aya and peers curious into her eyes. ] Tell me about yourself.
[personal profile] emergence on December 25th, 2019 03:25 am (UTC)
[ well, that line resonates more than it should. eve's words about being the superior being - her warnings that using her powers would make aya like her one day - cause a flicker of uncertainty to cross her face as she remembers them.

the sudden dip, though, as she grips his shoulders a little tighter, is a good distraction. she laughs, the noise a bit awkward, because what is there to say about herself that isn't getting into too much detail? ]

I'm afraid I'm rather tame by comparison.

[ she waits until he rights them before continuing, shifting control of the dance to him easily. ]

I'm assuming you have something like a police force where you're from - or knights. I became a member of the police, who defend the public, where I'm from. I'd been with the force a few years when there was a terrorist event where I lived.

I ended up helping to take it down. But what had happened left these... creatures spreading across the states. I joined a different task force to help exterminate them.

[ there's a lot she's leaving out. and regis may be able to tell, given her hesitation over the words 'terrorist event'. like she wants to say something else but it's an old lie she's told many times. ]

So, that's what I do. I hunt down the creatures that almost destroyed my home a couple years ago.
[personal profile] lucere on December 25th, 2019 04:59 am (UTC)
[ Once they're both upright, Regis decides to lead into the next dance. A king is always meant to lead but right now he's not the king. If anything, he's simply the playful old gentleman with the fatherly smile. ]

Despite our archaic culture, Lucis had a task force similar to your law enforcement.

[ Several, actually. You have the Kingsglaive, the Crownsguard, the Royal Military and then local law enforcement that protected the local principalities. Lucis was mostly a peaceful country but they certainly had their own problems without the aid of Niffelhiem terrorizing them. ]

Terrorism? [ While Regis may have noticed her hesitancy, he cannot help but bristle a little at the word. ] What a dreadful thought. I hope all is well in your homeland, Miss Brea.

The creatures you speak of sound eerily similar to the daemons that haunt the outskirts of the royal capital.
[personal profile] emergence on December 25th, 2019 05:24 am (UTC)
Some people may well consider them demons.

[ and, despite the neo-mitochondrial creatures decidedly organic origins, she sometimes can't help but feel that they might be her own personal hell.

she gives a thin smile, appreciating the concern all the same. ]

It is. It was the work of one man [ a woman, actually, ] who meddled with things he shouldn't have to create the creatures - the NMCs, we call them. Catching them was difficult, at first; they seem to only need to come into contact with other living things to infect them as well.

But we are finally putting their numbers down, after all this work.

[ until dryfield. until neo-ark... but that's her problem, not regis'.

of course, once the nmcs are gone, the only monster left will be aya herself. ]
[personal profile] lucere on December 28th, 2019 12:52 am (UTC)
All of this suffering caused by the untempered will of one man.

[ He mutters under his breath with a hint of disgust and annoyance. Aya’s sounds eerily similar to his own in regards to these beasts being man made. While the truth about the Starscrouge that plagues his world is unbeknown to him, Regis suspects the origin’s of this plague deals with the meteor that fell during the Age of the Gods. It’s a disease that has existed since antiquity but when the Empire started cultivating the virus to suit their needs, that’s when all broke loose. The Gods been fighting against this virus for more than a millennia but it took the fickle whim of humankind to make it worse. ]

The virus that plagues your realm sounds too similar to the evil that spreads within mine. [ Regis admits with a bit of a sigh. ] No one knows of the Starscrouge’s true origins but I know mankind tried to wield such a virus as weapon.

[ His thoughts momentarily turn dark as he thinks of Aldercapt but he does well to keep his grim thoughts off his face. To Aya, he’ll just look as if he’s lost in thought and nothing more. ]

It seems that your world has you to thank for such progress made against the blight.

[ He grins at her for a moment, his glee reaching his gaze.]

You deserve a medal and many riches for your servitude. I hope you receive them and more.
[personal profile] emergence on December 30th, 2019 08:23 pm (UTC)
[ she's glad they're dancing, as it gives her a chance to duck her head, seemingly to hide a flush from flattery - but really from guilt. it wasn't klamp, as much as he had assisted eve. the wanton destruction she otherwise caused was all her own, and the new creatures were wrought from aya's own blood. she feels as responsible for it as the other two.

being praised doesn't sit right for her for that. but that, at least, she can play off, raising her head again to give a little smile. ]

Honestly, I would just be happy for the world to never know that they needed to be protected. Some secrets are meant to be as such. It's the sacrifice we make.
[personal profile] lucere on January 6th, 2020 09:19 pm (UTC)
It's the sacrifices we make.

[That comment resonates with Regis more than he's willing to admit. He gives Aya a faint smile as the dance comes to a slow end. It seems that the orchestra might be in intermission for the moment giving them the chance necessary to take a break. Regis is feeling oddly proud of being able to keep up with Aya. Even though the Crystal stole his youth, it hasn't stolen his love for dancing.]

Your humility speaks volumes, Miss Brea. If I may dare say, it's quite refreshing.

[There's so much he wants to discuss with her but Regis fears he might be eating up all her time. After all, he doubts this stunning woman ventured to the ball without a date.]

Could a tempt you with a glass of chardonnay?
[personal profile] emergence on January 6th, 2020 09:45 pm (UTC)
[ she did come with a partner, but he's occupying himself at the moment. regis has aya's full attention, and she grins a bit more when he mentions humility. it's not humility, but she'll take the compliment for the moment. ]

You'd hardly need the chardonnay to tempt me.

[ it's definitely a light flirt in his direction, but she offers her hand again. ]

I'd be happy to share a bottle, though.
