IC
Name: Regis Lucis Caelum
Canon: Final Fantasy XV
Canon point: Post-Kingsglaive
Age: 50

History: Here

Personality:
  • Compassionate
Regis is the kind of character who would offer to show mercy rather than punishment. Even though Regis comes across as a bit stern and stubborn, he seems more willing to let bygones be bygones rather than continue with a pointless grudge. This is why he was such a good father to Noctis. Even though he wore the mantle as king, Regis never pushed his son aside for the sake of his kingdom. He was a father first and a king second.

  • Dutiful
Regis is a conscientious soul who will always strive to do the right thing regardless of the hardships. He has worked tirelessly to provide for the citizens of his kingdom and done his best to protect all of Lucis from the tyranny of the empire. While some would disapprove of some of his methods, Regis genuinely feels responsible for the wellbeing of his people. The crown often weighs heavily upon the head who wears it but Regis doesn’t shirk his duties onto others. He was always active within the daily affairs of the Lucian parliament and usually was a stark opponent towards anyone hoping to disrupt the peace of his kingdom. Through Regis’s constant diligence, he managed to hold off against the Empire as long as he could.

  • Leadership
A great leader possesses a rather clear vision for both himself and those around him. Regis demonstrates this trait courageously with a strong sense of integrity, honesty, and humility. While he certainly does take pride in his accomplishments, he takes pride in assisting others and will always do his best to help those in need no matter the cost. Regis is also a rather good communicator, someone who’s able to voice his thoughts without demeaning the concerns of others. The concerns of his subjects matter more to him than his own wellbeing. That is why Regis was willing to use the Crystal’s power in hopes of protecting his people despite the dire costs.

  • Blind Devotion
Despite all of Regis’s more positive traits, the man is blinded by his devotion to the gods. Regis allows his faith to lead him astray several times throughout the story. Many would assume that one’s faith would be a positive trait, it absolutely isn’t here. His faith in the Astrals, namely in Bahamut, is what led him down this dark prophecy of doom and gloom. Not once did Regis seem to waver from his faith, willing to lead Lucis into ruins under the guise of doing this for the salvation of Eos. It never dawned upon Regis that he could forge a new fate outside of the Astrals demands. Where others would question and challenge the gods, Regis did not because of years of religious doctrine that kept his hands metaphorically tied throughout the long years. Even now, he will struggle to stray from his beliefs and will urge others to uphold the prophecy regardless of the risks.

  • Stubbornness
Even though Regis is as charismatic as they come, he’s as stubborn as a bull sometimes. When he doesn’t want to do something, he won’t and he’ll make his complaints heard. It’s not easy to have to deal with this royal when he made his mind up on something but it’s not impossible. Regis tends to double down on the rhetoric and stand firm against the tide when sorely pressed by those who defy him. This much is shown through his feud with Cid Sophiar, one of his former comrades. The two of them had a falling out that lasted for decades for reasons unbeknown to us all. While Cid is known to be quite stubborn, Regis’s stubbornness shined tenfold to allow such a disagreement to rattle his friendship with Cid. While Regis isn’t above apologizing for his actions, it’s sometimes difficult for him to swallow his pride and do so.

  • Guilt
While many factors lead to the fall of Lucis, many of which were outside of Regis’s control, it was his sense of guilt for failing to save the Fleurets that led him to make the worst decision of his life. Regis never forgives himself for failing to save Lunafreya and her brother Ravus when the Empire invaded Tenebrae. He blamed himself for decades for the death of their mother and sought a way to make amends. This was the chink in his armor that the Empire used against him. They used Lunafreya as a bargaining chip against Regis in hopes of gaining access to his kingdom. If Regis wasn’t so hellbent on saving the Oracle, he wouldn’t have lowered his guard. I suppose you can say he’s a bit emotional, to be honest. Regis doesn’t make the best decisions when his emotions have the best of him.

    Powers/Abilities:

  • Armiger Arsenal.
Regis used to wield the mystic arms of his ancestors in battle, much like his son Noctis. The royal arms, also known as the Armiger Arsenal, allowed for Regis to warp and teleport in combat giving him increased range and movement speed. It's also was capable of giving Regis a temporary increase in might in the form of summoning all thirteen arms together for a single collective strike. Each Armiger within the arsenal is represented by past Kings and Queens of the Lucis. Even Regis's own sword (The Sword of the Father) is amongst this list of mystical weaponry ranges from a sword to tridents, to also crossbows and shields.

Here is a full list of the Armiger Arsenal here.

For the sake of reference, Regis lost the Sword of the Father during the fall of Insomnia. So that would be the only weapon missing from his arsenal currently. He can also store new weapons or items in the armiger, even mundane things such as a book or two as illustrated by how Noctis can store his fishing rods in there. Think of the armiger as something like another dimension within itself.

  • Elemental Magic
Much like his son, Regis is also capable of wielding magic as shown in the animated feature, Kingsglaive. Regis has a mastery over the four elements, earth, fire, lightning, and ice. He demonstrates his magical prowess against General Glauca several times within the film and also within the prologue game A King's Tale. He can freeze enemies in their place using ice spells and utterly burn or electrocute foes using others. It should be noted that Regis shares a stronger affinity to lightning/thunder and tends to use that form of magic often.

  • Magical Shields
In addition to his destructive spells, Regis is capable of forming a barrier around himself and others. This power he demonstrates in the film thanks to his covenant with the Crystal. Regis manages to protect the Royal City of Insomnia from the Imperial invasion using a magical paling that fed off his own life force.

As long as he lived, the protective barrier remained. It isn't until after Regis's death the paling falls and his city is ravaged by the Niflheim's monsters. Literally no form of attack, magic, or physical can pass through his shields. It's assumed by the Final Fantasy community that Regis's magic is loosely based upon the spell Mighty Guard that gives combatants momentary defense against all magical and melee attacks for a short period of time.

Regret: His greatest regret is allowing the Kingdom of Lucis to fall according to the prophecy told to him by the Astrals.

Inventory: Regis honestly doesn't possess much upon his person besides his kingly attire, his golden scepter, and ornate leg brace. However, he still has the silver horned circlet he wore.
