CHARACTER NAME: Regis Lucis Caelum
AGE: 50
CANON: Final Fantasy XV
CANON POINT: Post-Kingsglaive
BACKGROUND/HISTORY: Regis Lucis Caelum hails from a long ancient line of Lucian Kings who were blessed by the gods known as the Astrals. He is the son of King Mors and the 113th King of Lucis. Much like his predecessor, he served a dual role as both sovereign and guardian both. The Kings of Lucis are the guardians of the Crystal, a mysterious darkly colored stone gifted to the royal family by the gods. In order to access the powers of the Crystal, the Ring of the Lucii is necessary to tap into this bountiful power. It’s with this in mind that caused the Empire of Niflheim to attack Lucis. After a 100 year armistice between the two nations, Nilfheim began to attack Lucis shortly after the death of King Mors, Regis’s father. In order to protect his kingdom, Regis conjured an enormous magical shield around the Crowned City of Insomnia by channeling the Crystal's powers through the ring. While he managed to protect Insomnia for a time, the Crystal's parasitic power began to drain his lifeforce thus aging him severely beyond his years. With the threat of a Niflheim invasion constantly looming over Insomnia and the promises of painful death by the Crystal, Regis was backed into a proverbial corner. On several occasions,

PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY: N/A
PERSONALITY: Selfless, kind, and born to rule, Regis is everything one would expect a king to be. He stands tall among his peers in both stature and ideals. He's the kind of man who always looks towards the future rather than laments over the past. He believes wholeheartedly that a king always pushes onward while accepting the consequences of all their decisions. As a king, Regis is utterly fearless and stern but as a father, he's quite loving and fretful. He's greatly saddened by the dark fate that awaits his son, Noctis, and feels guilty for being powerless to help him. Regis believes in the strength of his royal bloodline but still fears for Noctis all the same.

Despite all that's known about Regis, he remains somewhat enigmatic but he's quite beloved by those who knew him. While he doesn't wear his emotions often, sometimes there are little dents in his stony facade. A king is a nation's pillar. He cannot be shown otherwise since he's constantly under scrutiny. Regis's public persona differs from his personal. The king appears as a stern authority figure but deep down, he's much kinder. Regis is a likable person, one who's not lacking in eloquence or persuasiveness. Thanks to all his years in the political arena, Regis is capable of swaying the judgment of others for his agenda. He's often the kind of person who would appeal to one's morals over momentary gains. A stark example of this is Regis's refusal to turn away the many migrants who entered Lucis's borders after the fall of Galahd.

His son's safety is his first and primary priority. Regis puts his son's life above all others and this shows during the events of Kingsglaive. He outright betrays his kingdom just to ensure that the prophecy comes to pass but he does so with a heavy heart. These conflicting ideas paint the picture of a conflicted man. While he does believe a king should always look to the future, that doesn't mean he's not without guilt. Regis blames himself for the fall of Lucis and Tenebrae. He takes the blame for many of his decisions and hopes that future generations will come to forgive him in due time. If there was another way to save both Eos and Noctis, Regis would've taken it. His devotion to his people is only second to his devotion to Noctis. Regis truly does love his son but he also wishes for Noctis to find his path in life after the fall of Lucis.

While sometimes his efforts are met with some reluctance on Noctis's part, there's no doubt that Regis is the most influential person in his son's life. His love for Noctis is what ultimately defines Regis as a character since he's honestly one of the few positive paternal figures in the Final Fantasy series. Overall, Regis is truly a good man and father both but like all politicians, he looks out for his interests.

SUITABILITY:
ABILITIES/SKILLS:
  • Armiger Arsenal
Due to his royal bloodline, Regis was blessed with the ability to summon the Royal Amiger, which is this indefinite transdimensional space that allows him to store a seemingly endless amount of items and weaponry. While there appears to be no limit, the Kings of Lucis typically use this magical hammerspace to store the Royal Arms, the phantom-like swords that they can summon at will. It's suggested that if Regis forms a bond with others, he'll be able to offer a fraction of his powers to those he deems loyal. That means he can store their personal items within this mystical void as well as offer his companions the opportunity to share within this magic. In Ethyraia, Regis's armiger will start as empty except for three of the Royal Arms.

  • The Royal Arms
Much like his royal ancestors, Regis has the ability to wield the weaponry of his predecessors in combat. Unlike in canon, Regis will not be able to summon all thirteen of the Royal Arms but only three of them at a time. While he can temporarily empower himself to inflict more serious damage upon his foes when wielding these swords, he won't be able to do so for long due to old age. Summoning the Royal Arms will be very taxing for Regis since it would drain his magical amplitude.

  • Elemental Magic
Much like his son, Regis is also capable of wielding magic. Regis has a mastery over the three elements: fire, lightning, and ice. He demonstrates his magical prowess within the film Kingsglaive on numerous occasions. He can freeze enemies in their place using ice, and utterly burn them to ash by wielding fire. It should be noticed the magic the Glaives wield wasn't their own but rather his brand magic that Regis bestowed upon them out of trust. While Regis seems to possess a strong affinity with lightning/thunder magic, he's capable of using all three.

  • Magical Shields
In addition to his destructive spells, Regis is capable of forming a barrier around himself and others. This power he demonstrates in the film thanks to his covenant with the Crystal. Regis manages to protect the Royal City of Insomnia from the Imperial invasion using a magical paling that fed off his own life force. As long as he lived, the protective barrier remained. It isn't until after Regis's death the paling falls and his city is ravaged by the Niflheim's monsters. Literally no form of attack, magic, or physical can pass through his shields. It's assumed by the Final Fantasy community that Regis's magic is loosely based upon the spell Mighty Guard that gives combatants momentary defense against all magical and melee attacks for a short period of time.
